I have little faith in the accuracy and abilities of the "AI" chatbots I have tried.
Chatgpt:
I asked it a few questions early on and found its responses repetitive, in line with the old chatbot Eliza.
Recently my nephew engaged with it to try and figure out how to use some public EV charging stations he bought at auction they were from a company that went out of business. chatgpt sent him on a wild goose chase trying to hack the cell phone based router in it, while simultaneously encouraging him and also not really helping him because it did not believe that he owned them. It finally suggested he use a open EV charger kit that basically would have used only the power and charging cables and throw the rest away.
Gemini:
I have an audio clip a cousin gave me. It is from some video or cartoon from before 2000. I can find no information on it and cannot ask my cousin as he is dead. I gave gemini the audio file and it confidently told me it was from a video game. When I researched the video game it was from about 2023. So I went back to it started over told it that it was from before 2000, and was not from that video game. Once again it confidently and assurance that the audio was from the anime X: the movie or x/1999
dubbed version. it gave me details on the scene and other information. so I found the movie on youtube and watched the scene in question. not even close. completely wrong. twice it just made shit up. what it should have said was it did not know, or at best referenced the
video I did in a short on youtube trying to identify it. if you search
the quote from the file that is the only thing that comes up.
Rufus (amazon):
probably the most retarded and useless one so far. Amazon's search function is shit. it basically ignores boolean search's and will show you things that are sort of related to what you are looking for when you search for something very specific and it does not have it. It is very difficult to get amazons search to come up with nothing.
one day I was looking for a strong magnet with a very specific shape and size. amazon search was turning up the usual completely wrong results. I then went to rufus and asked it. I gave it the size measurements and explained I was not interested in anything that was not that size. It came back with results that did not match the specs I gave it. I told it that, and it then said that there was not really anything on amazon that met my specs. It gave me some options and when I clicked on one of them it was on a site that was not amazon and in another country.
I also mentioned that amazons search is not very good and it responded that this is a common complaint. I mentioned that I often order a thing that I will never order again and that amazon will show me more of that thing and it is annoying. it responded that this is a common complaint. It told me in a round about way that amazon is setup for standard consumers and that I am not really the type of person the algorithms are designed around... so I have that going for me, which is nice.
I have zero confidence in chatbot AI LLM search engine garbage. Googles AI overview is terrible. it gives overviews that are at best a summary of whatever you searched for and in some cases it returns generic useless instructions along the lines of: "to do X find the manual for it then follow those instructions"
